Choosing the Right Baby Crib

With a new baby on the way, you’ll want the perfect crib to coordinate with your nursery and provide a safe sleep environment for your little one.

Not only are there different styles of baby cribs, but there is now a wide selection of convertible cribs. Many baby cribs are designed to convert to toddler beds, children's benches, and even adult daybeds for later use elsewhere in the home.

There are so many different types and sizes of kids bedding and baby bedding for children that it can sometimes be baffling to try and determine which bed size is best, and there is really no correct answer to this. It is all based on the individual child and other considerations.

The crib must meet all recommended safety standards. Most new cribs on the market today comply with both mandatory and voluntary safety standards.

For example, the bars or slats of the crib railing should be no more than 2 3/8 inches apart so a baby can't wedge his head between them. A mattress should fit snugly into the baby crib. There should not be any room that allows your baby to get his or her hands (or any other body parts) caught between the mattress and the baby crib.

Carefully choose the location for your baby's crib, in particular don't place the crib against a window, near drapery fixtures, or near furniture which could help your baby climb out.

Because a baby crib is the only children's product manufactured with the intention that a child will be left unattended, parents should be extremely careful in the selection process. You might find this link very handy with your selection process http://www.epinions.com/

Baby Room Decor Tips & Hints

When you plan for a baby room decor, the best thing would be to give attention to detail. Choose the one which would look eye catching to your guests, pleasing to you and comfortable to the baby. A well lit room could be beautiful provided it does not affect or strain the baby’s eyes.

Moving on first to baby furniture…. Baby furniture consists of items which could make the baby sleep and eat comfortably. An ideal, comfortable crib (which could give it sound sleep), high chairs, night stands (to store baby items in one place), and changing tables make up a furniture set for the baby.

The most important item in the furniture and of course the baby room decor is the crib. The crib has to be strong and durable, from a reputed company. It should be free from rough edges or unnecessary protrusions. The paint should not be lead based. Make sure that there are no decorative items which could hurt its head, back or limbs. There are cribs which have a one sided or two sided openings. You will also find cribs which are convertible and portable ones. There are cribs which look like cradles with a gentle rocking motion making your baby have a hearty sleep.

The baby room decor should ideally have the color combinations and schemes which could complement or blend with the furniture. The paint should be non toxic. Also spare a thought to get good carpets and interesting wallpapers. You can go for vibrant and vivid wallpapers or you could even choose wallpapers which could fancy your baby’s eyes like cartoon characters or animations.

To make a baby room decor is a job of pride for every parent. It is like giving the best place in your home for your baby. Not only that, you are decorating it for your baby making it look special and lovely in the best manner possible. If you do not want temporary wall paper which you might have to discard later because your baby might fancy something new sooner or later, you could apply solid color on the walls.

You could also use a removable wall paper which you could change as and when you want. You could also inexpensive area rugs on cork or wood floor. Hard floors are less messy, they don’t gather allergies or dust, and you can easily replace the area rugs. You could get frames and lamps wherein you could fit pictures which could fancy your baby. You could even put in her/his picture.

Get soft toys and dolls which are non toxic. Buy the best night stands where you could put your baby’s clothes, diapers and little bottles. The night stand which could have a color which could complement the color of the room should be closer to its bed and the changing table. The changing table’s height should be of the right type, neither too or too low.

Pay attention to the window as well. A valuable tip in baby room decor for windows would be to keep the curtains that end at the window sill. If the curtains or blinds drop down to the floor, they could be pulled by the baby, especially when it is crawling.

Baby room decor is not a tough job at all, all you have to decide is about the baby’s safety, comfort and the space required for its movement. Then decorate it in such a way that could put a smile on your baby’s face.

The Various Decorating Styles You Can Use For Your Nursery

Most parents to be love decorating the nursery as it really does bring the reality that a new arrival is on its way. There are lots of different decorating styles that you could choose from that sometimes it can often be a hard decision to actually choose one! There are so many things to think about when planning the nursery so just what exactly should you be aware of?

Planning the Décor and Furniture

It is extremely important to plan first before you actually set off designing what you want. You need to plan the furniture, the color scheme and also the little extras that you may want within the room.

Furniture wise you are going to need a cot or a cot bed, a changing table and a wardrobe. Then there are extras such as a mobile to hang over the cot and a nightlight to soothe the baby at night as well as a playpen for when the baby needs to be left alone for a few minutes. However, before all of that you need to decide a color scheme.

Many parents to be choose a color scheme based on the sex of the baby. However, if you do not want to know the sex of your baby then you may wish to choose a neutral color. If you wanted to be completely different you could always decorate with a mural on the wall. Obviously you will need to be artistic to do this or you could buy wallpaper which has baby animals on it. Usually there is a wide selection of nursery wallpaper so if you do get stuck you can always go back to that.

Where to Find Nursery Equipment

If you are decorating the nursery with paint then your local hardware store should be able to help you. However, if you are using wallpaper then a DIY or craft shop may be able to help. As for the furniture, that can be found in all kinds of places.

Either you can choose the furniture and extras at a department store, or if you are on a budget you could always try the discount stores or even a flea market. You never know what you will find at a flea market and some parents do find some good bargains there. Baby Proofing Basics

One of the first things that goes through a new parent’s head is the need for safety. Baby proofing your home is a major concern – and rightfully so. Many accidents that happen in the home can be prevented with a few safety precautions.

Before you spend a penny on baby proofing accessories, take an inventory throughout your home to look for trouble spots. Some examples of baby dangers are chemicals, open toilets, bathtub faucets, sharp edges on tables and other furniture, staircases, unprotected electrical outlets, heavy furniture such as bookcases and entertainment centers that could fall on baby, window blind cords, electrical appliances, sharp utensils, doors that lock on the inside, and choking hazards.

As you’re going through your home making a baby-proofing inventory, make sure that you don’t stay on your feet. Don’t forget to get on your hands and knees and get a baby’s eye level view of your home.

When you look at the above list, you may begin to feel overwhelmed – but don’t panic! Baby proofing doesn’t have to be done all in one day – especially if you start early in your pregnancy and baby’s life.

You should begin thinking about baby proofing as soon as you decide to become a parent. However, even after your baby is born you have a little time to get the job done. At first your baby won’t be able to move around the house at will and this gives you time to get your baby proofing done if you haven’t already completed it. Certainly before your baby is crawling, you should have your baby proofing completed.

Many parents work hard at baby proofing their home, but don’t take care of the hidden choking hazards that are lurking. An easy test to determine whether or not an object is a choking hazard is to see if it will fit through the hole in a toilet paper roll.

If an object can easily slide through, it can easily be picked up by small hands and put in the mouth. Make sure that you don’t make a baby-proofing mistake by overlooking common objects in your home that could spell big danger.

Once you know what areas of your home need baby proofing, you can make some simple modifications to improve safety. Childproof latches, socket covers, and simply picking up dangerous objects can help make your home safer for your baby and improve your peace of mind.

Some Advice When Buying A Travel Cot

A cot is a piece of furniture that is used for babies, infants, campers and travelers. Baby cots are used for babies while travel cots and camping cots are for travelers and campers. Baby cots usually come with elevated sides to prevent the baby from falling from the cot. With a baby cot, you will also have to buy some cot baby bedding and a baby blanket for use in the cot.

If you intend to use the baby cot when traveling, it is better to use a baby travel cot. This is because these travel baby cots can be folded in seconds to be stored away in a carrying case. It is not always necessary to buy a travel baby cot as most hotels and B & Bs have baby cots for your use.

However, if you intend to use your own travel baby cot for your baby for sanitary reasons, mothers prefer sharing a common baby travel cot amongst them instead of individually investing in a baby travel cot. This is because mothers seldom travel regularly with babies; so investing in baby travel cots for occasional travel seems a waste.

Camping, or travel cots are naturally longer and stronger and meant for use by adults. Camping or tent cots are not that heavy and can be taken when camping, fishing or hunting. It can also be used as an extra bed at home for unexpected guests. Camping cots are made of rugged and heavy bound material that last a lifetime. Its tough steel legs and aluminum wall makes it possible to support a maximum of 350 pounds.

When buying travel cots, make sure that it is light, portable, convenient for storage and can easily be set up and dismantled. Today, some travel cots come with wheels for easy transportation. A piece of advice for camping cots; it is better to have some padding placed on the legs of the tent cot, so that its legs don’t tear the tent when in use.
